Arktik LNG 2

Arctic LNG 2 Project will be located on the Gydan peninsula of Yamalo Nenetsky Autonomous Region, located within the Arctic Circle of the Russian Federation. Within the scope of the project of which employer is Novatek; 3 LNG facilities, each with a capacity of 6.6 million tons per year, will be built under the contracting partnership between the Renaissance Heavy Industries (RHI), one of the Renaissance group companies, and the Italian energy company Saipem. The total capacity of the 3 plants will be 19.8 mtpa.

The most striking feature of the project in terms of engineering is that the structures within the scope of the project will be constructed in a different location and then floated to the operating location. With this principle, in dry docks prepared in the Murmansk Region, GBSs will be built together with the top facilities, will be taken into the water after completion of their construction and will be transported to their permanent locations by guiding ships, and will be settled on the seabed.

GBSs (Gravity Based Structure) are large-scale reinforced concrete structures that sit on the sea bed. Their stability is provided by their own weight. Besides serving as an infrastructure for LNG units located at the top side, the main features of a GBS will be as follows;

  • Basic dimensions (WxLxH); 150 m x 300 m x 30 m
  • Nominal weight is about 350 thousand tons
  • The ability to be floated and submerged at sea

Together with other project subcontractors, YAPIFEN is involved in the preparation of 3-dimensional (3D) formwork and reinforcement models as well as 2-dimensional (2D) construction projects of GBS.
